| Customizing video with user captions,
giving translation subtitles.
As video becomes the norm for online content in 2007, and
social media demands the right to add your personal touch,
dotSUB
is empowering users to create captions for online videos.
How dotSUB Works
- Upload a video to dotSUB's website
- Transcribe in the original language.
- Translate, sentence by sentence, into your own language.
Subtitles are automatically imbedded in the video and can
be viewed on dotSUB in everything from Korean to Ukrainian.
The system also supports collaborative captioning on a single
video, giving percentage progress updates.
Project ReadOn
Project
ReadOn is another provider of captions for online videos.
Project ReadOn doesn't embed captions, instead it shows them
in a separate frame . Whilst easy to read in large type, they
are prone to falling out of sync with videos, since both are
loaded separately.
As web video's popularity continues to grow, making it accessible
to both the hearing impaired and speakers or students of other
languages is a worthy cause.
Subtitling translations could grow into a substantial niche
market.
